Job Goal:

To work with staff, students, and community to ensure a “high quality” educational program overall implementing the school’s mission and vision and strategic goals.  To assist the principal in ensuring that we create an environment that is not only safe and nurturing, but one with high expectations and accountability for faculty, staff, students, and parents.

 

Job Description:

Under the direction of the Building Principal, Chief Academic Officer and the Assistant Principal, the Licensed School Social Worker provides direct and indirect social work services to students experiencing social, emotional and/or behavioral problems that interfere with their performance in school, and facilitates communication among school, home and community providers.

 

Social Worker Job Responsibilities:

  • Conducting bio-psychosocial assessments and social histories;

  • Assessing students for substance use, support systems, physical and emotional functioning, barriers to academic performance, peer issues, suicidal/homicidal ideation, and similar issues;

  • Developing and implementing treatment plans and discharge plans that support student self-determination;

  • Providing direct therapeutic services such as individual, family or group therapy regarding specific issues;

  • Providing crisis management services, including assessing for safety;

  • Advocating for student services and students’ best interests;

  • Providing case management services including, but not limited to, referrals to community resources, collaboration with other professionals;

  • Providing trainings and workshops to teachers, school staff and parents;

  • Conducting home visits;

  • Identifying and resolving ethical issues;

  • Managing and supervising staff; and

  • Contributing to a multidisciplinary treatment team

Qualifications:

  • Desire and ability to work with students at the specified age level with diverse backgrounds and levels of ability toward accomplishing their educational goals.

  • Ability to organize tasks and manage time to meet many and varied deadlines and communicate effectively with students, parents, school administrators and other staff, including the ability to discuss topics which may be sensitive.

  • Working familiarity with student assessment tools, especially in evaluating and interpreting standardized test results.

  • Knowledge of educational software.

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in education or appropriately related field

  • Minimum of 1 year of school counseling or teaching experience

  • Understanding and familiarity with computer applications and word processing functions

  • Knowledge of Restorative Justice Principles for Schools
